Incident: Swerved to avoid a motorcycle, scraping the undercarriage against the pavement.
"I was extremely stressed at first! The bill for a new battery from the dealer was over 400k THB. But the insurance covered 100% of the battery value. Paying a small difference was totally worth it compared to bearing the full cost. Such a relief!"
Incident: Drove through a flooded road, and the car stalled.
"The flood was so deep that the car stalled. I called the insurance, and they immediately sent a free tow truck to bring it to the dealer. Water got into the battery, but the insurance fully covered natural disasters. They handled it very fastâhighly satisfied!"

Class 1 plans selected by PrakanEV cover up to 100% of the High Voltage (HV) battery value, depreciating based on the car's actual age according to OIC standards. This saves you from paying hundreds of thousands in case of a major accident.
We always recommend 'Dealer Garage' (Authorized Dealer) because high-voltage systems require specialized tools and brand-certified technicians to maintain the car's warranty.
đ Read full comparison: Dealer vs. Garage RepairIf you choose the 'Dealer Garage' plan, the service center will requisition 100% genuine OEM parts directly from the manufacturer for maximum safety and perfect software integration.
Currently, the average waiting time for parts and repairs is 14 - 30 days. Since top EV brands in Thailand now have local spare parts warehouses, disbursements are much faster than in the early years.

Yes, you can! Insurers consider the car's age, condition, sum insured amount, and specific policy conditions. A pre-purchase inspection may be required in some cases. Most used EVs under 5-7 years old are still eligible for Class 1 (comprehensive) insurance.
Generally, car insurance does not cover natural battery degradation, as it is considered normal wear and tear. However, accident-related battery damage (collision, flooding, fire) is covered under your policy. For manufacturing defects affecting the battery, check the manufacturer's warranty â most EV brands offer 8-year or 160,000 km battery warranties.
Standard policies typically do not include the wall-mounted home charger. However, you can add Wallbox coverage as an optional add-on for approximately 400 THB/year, which covers fire, power surge, and accident-related damage to your charging equipment.
Factory-installed OEM accessories (genuine spoilers, brand alloy wheels, etc.) are covered under standard Class 1 insurance. However, aftermarket modifications â custom wheels, upgraded sound systems, body kits â are NOT covered by default. You must declare these modifications to your insurer and purchase additional coverage (add-on) to protect them.
Class 1 provides the most comprehensive coverage â collision, theft, fire, flood, and third-party liability. It's recommended for high-value EVs. Class 2+ is similar but excludes theft and single-vehicle accidents â suitable for EVs over 5 years old. Class 3+ only covers third-party damage and medical expenses â no coverage for your own vehicle. For EVs, we always recommend Class 1 due to the extremely high cost of battery and electrical system repairs.
Under Thailand's OIC (Office of Insurance Commission) standards, EV battery depreciation is calculated by vehicle age: Year 1 â 0% (full replacement value), Year 2 â 10%, Year 3 â 20%, Year 4 â 30%, Year 5 â 40%, Year 6+ â 50%. Some insurers offer special promotions that reduce or waive depreciation deductibles in early years. Always check the specific terms of your chosen plan.
EV insurance premiums are calculated based on: (1) Vehicle value and sum insured â higher value, higher premium; (2) Vehicle age â newest cars get the best rates; (3) Claims history â no claims earns NCB discounts up to 50%; (4) Coverage type â Class 1 is priciest but most comprehensive; (5) Annual mileage â under 15,000 km/year saves 10-15%; (6) Driver age â drivers aged 25-30 get the lowest rates; (7) Dashcam installation â 5-10% discount.
Buying EV insurance online through platforms like PrakanEV differs from traditional brokers in several ways: (1) Compare quotes from multiple insurers in one place instantly â no need to call each company; (2) No broker fees or commissions added; (3) Get a quote in under 3 minutes; (4) Your personal data stays secure â not passed to multiple sales agents; (5) Cash installment plans available online â no credit card required.
Class 1 insurance does not cover battery degradation from extended parking or disuse, as this is considered natural deterioration rather than an accident. EV manufacturers recommend maintaining battery charge between 20-80% during long-term storage, and most models have a Battery Management System (BMS) that automatically preserves battery health. For peace of mind, check the manufacturer's battery warranty, which typically covers 8 years.
Compare plans, check prices, and find the right coverage for every EV brand in Thailand.
